CALISTHENICS - The Ultimate Bodyweight Exercises

Running makes you leaner. but the fact that there is Calisthenics help you tone as well.

CALISTHENICS - basically, it’s a fancy word for body weight based exercises or movements.

Calisthenics earns its name as it is effective both for asethetic development as well as building strength. It combines stength and conditioning training, while also borrowing movements from gymnastics and acrobatics, sometimes using euqipments like bars and rings. First developed by anicent Greek armies, calisthenics is popular with modern day soldiers.

The main goal of calisthenics is to improve your muscle and aerobic endurace. It helps both the strength and hypertrophy of muscles, if you are more concerned about the aestheic aspects of working out.

Calisthenics also improves cardiovascular fitness, which is associated with long term benefits.

Calisthenics has also been shown to improve posture, strength and fat loss, even in those just starting out, benefiting physical fitness and wellbeing. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, “Vigorous calisthenics burn more calories than many common cardio workouts” due to the greater amount of muscle engagement required.

Movements like Pushups and Pullups work multiple muscle groups, meaning you work out more of your body in a shorter period of time.

Better for your body

Because you’re not lifting heavy weights, there is a reduction in risk of injury. You’re designed to be able to move yourself in different ways, meaning calisthenics is easier on your tendons, joints and muscles. Not only will you build great functional strength, making everyday tasks easier, but by reducing stress on your joints while building that strength, results in a longer lifespan for those joints.

Multiple muscles at once

Body weight movements, such as push ups, pull ups, jumping lunges, all work multiple muscle groups at once. For example, a pull up doesn’t just work your biceps, it also relies on your back and core muscles.

Endurance

Calisthenics actually increase your resting metabolic rate, as well as enhance and develop muscular and aerobic endurance. Not only that, but it is more effective at developing lower-body coordination compared to Pilates within the same period of time.

Equipment and Time

Callisthenic workouts can be done with ZERO equipment, but even with one or two pieces of equipment (pull up bar/dip bar). You can achieve a seriously hardcore workout as soon as you step through your own front door in just 20 minutes, that’s no travel time, no parking time, no waiting for machine time, no heading to the grocery store after the gym time…over the course of a year, this adds up tremendously.

“Calisthenics is the art of strengthening your entire body as a unit, eliminating each weak link in the chain until every fiber of your being is working in total harmony to produce extraordinary levels of strength.”

“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” John F. Kennedy”
